This months yarn is a very special slow dyeing experience. If you visited during 2019 as part of the courses that I offer then you will have helped me collect Lichen from the local Loch Ness woodlands. I have special permission from the owners to gather the Lichen, which is adundant in the area and has been blown from the trees.
I then soak the Lichen for many months for extract the dye, which was initially used for the December Yarn of the Month purple mini skein set using Uradale Yarn from Shetland. There was some pigment left in the dye after that special batch and I refused to waste a drop!
So at the start of 2020 I took the leftover dye and split it into several jars for a session of Solar dyeing. This process is completely passive and a great way to use up the final exhaust of a natural dye preparation.
It is a slow process requiring much patience but the results are beautiful and this gentle technique is great for preserving softness in the yarn.
This chunky merino is 100m of beautiful soft yarn in shades of pale pink, apricot, cream and pale apricot. The dye is even and perfect for single skein projects.
I offer free shipping for all orders over £50.
